A very lovely & very original Rolls Royce 20HP.
Without doubt this is the best 20HP we have ever driven. The steering is light & precise, the gear box as smooth as can be, and the engine is in perfect order.
This car was retained by its original owner, a Mr Chafey, until the fifties when it was sold by Station Garage Amersham for the princely sum of £165.00
The last ownership over a 12 year period has been under the careful eye of Mrs Suzanne Finch, The Chairwoman of the Rolls Royce Enthusiasts Club & her able husband Nick. Consequently the car has had the very best of attention from assorted specialists. Work completed includes a complete rewire in correct original linen covered wiring. Additionally the cylinder head has been completely overhauled by Feinnes Engineering a few thousand miles ago.
The car starts first time & runs with oil pressure above factory spec. Once warm the car starts almost every time "Off the Switch" attesting to the excellent compression as a result of new pistons & a 50 thou over rebore. (Off the switch meaning, to simply put the ignition switch to battery & then retard the ignition thereby creating a spark at which point the engine magically glides into life without recourse to the starter motor!)
The car is finished in Hooper Lake Purple over Black & the paintwork is in super all around order. To the interior, unusually, is black leather to the front & rear. The leather is patinated with some wear & is almost certainly original. The engine bay is totally original with the exception of the period rewire & pleasingly retains the original bakelite mushroom coil that is so often absent on these cars. The original hat cargo net as specified on the build sheets is still in place on the roof inside the passenger compartment. The car has perfect solid door shuts & exhibits none of the drooping or sagging found on more tired examples.
The car has done numerous trips to France & is a well known attendee at gatherings of the Rolls Royce Enthusiasts Club. Amongst the paperwork is an advertisement by the late "Mead of Burnham" advertising the car for £54,000 in 1990. The car has been much improved since then.
The car comes complete with some tools & its Enots Oil gun. (Enots being the inventors name, one Mr Stone spelled backwards!)
All in all, an opportunity to purchase a well known car with impeccable provenance, that is absolutely "right" & ready to give pleasure to its new owners. The car will be sold with a full service by Marque specialists Hofmann's of Henley & a fresh Ministry of Transport certificate.
