Powered by a 1.6 litre engine fitted with twin Zenith carburettors and an aluminium cylinder head, giving spirited performance, the Rapier Convertible was a highly regarded motor car in its heyday and is justifiably revered today. With survivors being very thin on the ground, good examples are keenly sought after.
This example, finished in Seal Grey with tan interior, is an exceptionally original car in all respects.
Clearly well cared for over the years with regular maintenance being carried out, it has been used sparingly, with the recorded mileage currently standing at just 42,660. It would be hard to find another unrestored specimen in comparable condition - the specification includes Rootes Lumax spotlamps (The mounting bar is currently being replated) A full length tonneau cover, factory towing bar, original Smiths radio, and white wall tyres. 15 previous MOT certificates assist in substantiating the recorded mileage, whilst the original buff RF60 logbook is included in the documentation.
With the benefit of a 3 position hood (Closed, semi open “coupe de ville” position, or fully open) this is a most versatile and attractive motor car, ideal for family touring, rallies and events.
The car remained in its original ownership for some 30 years, before passing to the second custodian who was to keep it for a further 18 years. Recent work has included lead free conversion of the cylinder head, replacement clutch, new tryes, exhaust system, overhauling of the brakes, along with renewal of fuel pump and pipes. The radiator has also been reconditioned and a correct type battery fitted.
Ready for enjoyable summer motoring, this charming family convertible is sure to give much pleasure to its new owner for many years to come.
