Hiro Nishio Rehabilitation
(17/04/12)
From Kenji Matsuoka, Hiro's good friend in Japan we have received this encouraging email:
Dear Gerry,
Today, I went to Hiro's hospital with Ricky and met Hiro. I have not seen him
for a long time. I am very much surprised that he recovers very very much. He
can move from his bed to a wheelchair and he can wheel himself. He speaks more
clearly than before and we can enjoy conversation with him. So, his quality of
life improved very much. He said that he is very busy for rehabilitation in the
afternoon. This recovery must be a result of his hard rehabilitation. As he
tries to continue hard rehabilitation, I expect that he will recover more.
Attached is a photo of the present hospital. It is in Sasayama city, one and
half hour drive from my home. This hospital is specialized for rehabilitation.
By the way, I am planning to visit UK again in June. I will participate a
conference about wind power and will visit several organization and companies
for my research.
I reserve an apartment hotel in London from 12 June through 4 July. Probably, I
will visit some car event such as Goodwood in weekends. If we could meet during
my stay in UK, it will be very nice.
With best regards,
Kenji
Thanks..

Latest news of HIRO NISHIO
(13/04/11)
Having arrived at Kobe hospital after a 18 hour journey I was delighted to see my friend Hiro Nishio sitting upright in his hospital bed. When I approached him he sensed I was near and whispered "Gerry-san is that you" I replied that it was I and we sat quietly holding hands. He was very happy and during my daily visits we discussed everything we had ever done together and laughed at all the adventures we had had. His eyesight is poor but he can hear perfectly and talk reasonably well, but tires easily......
Hiro still continues to make a recovery but there is slow progress. He can
speak. The other day he went out of the hospital using wheelchair.
Yukiko, his wife, sent us an explanation from his doctor about his present situation:
Hiro recovers gradually, but the degree of recovering is slower than usual or as hoped possible.
The reason of this is that the place injured is very close to the brainstem.
About his eyesight, as artery is checked, blood supply to visual area in the
brain is not enough. So the image in his eyeball is not processed in the brain.
These are medical explanations about his present situation, but his doctor doesn't have any estimation for his future recovery.
Recently he moved to other hospital to take an operation to remove granulation
from his trachea. After the operation he will move back to the previous hospital.
He tries very hard to recover by taking rehabilitation and we are sure that he
will recover soon.

Takahiro 'Hiro' Nishio, Octagon Garage, Kobe, Japan
(01/03/11)
On 21st November our friend and biggest MG enthusiast Hiro Nishio suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage / stroke and was taken to hospital.
He had trephination operation on the same day and stayed in an intensive care unit for several days.
He was then transferred to a rehabilitation centre where we believe he is slowly recovering. Currently he has no eyesight but he can hear and communicates very efficiently using morse code on a writing tablet.
He is unable to look after himself and is kept alive by an intrevenous drip.
We know many of his friends and business acquaintances will be anxious to hear of his progress.
I receive a daily Japanese blog from his wife Yukiko which I translate and will post regular updates on his recovery.
On Sunday 27th February Kenji Matsuoka from Kobe MG Car Club, Mike Card and I met at the Barley Mow pub in Surrey and I was able to hear of this man's remarkable fight for survival.
His future is not certain, but those of you who know him well will understand that his strong personality will hopefully allow him to recover and lead an almost normal life again.
On the move
(10/02/11)
Off we go again, this time collecting a classic Triumph TR4 from a beautiful little village Kinsale-about 8 miles south of Cork in the Republic of Ireland A very rough crossing on the way out from Fishguard, but the ship was very stable (thank you Stena) It wasn't until I looked out of one of the windows that I realised how big and steep the waves were! On the way bck the weather had deteriorated so much that the crossing was cancelled, so I had to divert to Dublin and cross to Holyhead Apparently, when there's a south westerly, the water is calmer the further north you cross the Irish Sea - makes sense I suppose. The TR4 is beautiful You can see her else where but I've put a picture up here as well She's been sold to a lucky gent in Australia, so she'll be off to Southampton and be put in to a big steel box very soon Unfortunately, I wont be taking here that far- Painted in a beautiful light blue (Wedgewood blue according to the documents), she'll look the part on Bondi Beach-STOP PRESS-customer change of plans means the car now for sale in UK-see web site for techical specification and price....
This is more like it
(05/08/10)
What a difference This picture was taked where the N5 crosses the river Shannon in the Republic of Ireland A truely beautiful spot And the pub at the bridge (Keenan's by name) serves a cracking steak - and probably a decent pint of Guinness too, but I was driving mi'lud, so I had to give that a swerve Shame!
