This is a fine pristine example of a very rare English car. It is in exeptional condition, having been the subject of a comprehensive, body off and chassis up, restoration programme and is as good on the inside, as it is out. There is a full photographic record of the work done, which was carried out to a very high standard.
The Equipe was a 2 litre sports car, built by the Bond car company in an attempt to break away from the companys’ then accepted image as a maker of low budget 3 wheeler mini cars. Due largely to the sluggish sales of their first inhouse attempt at a sports hardtop, the company hired a young English stylist named Trevor Fiore, to design a new glass fibre bodied car, using the same Triumph Vitesse chassis, 6 cylinder engine and running gear.
Trevor duly came up with goods and the result was a pleasant looking car, which had the advantage of its association with the Vitesse and its performance, without the weight disadvantage of a steel body shell. The car had very good performance for the period, helped by the twin Stromberg carbs. and an overdrive gearbox. Sadly, Bond did not have the financial clout to produce the car in sufficient numbers and never succeeded in making much of a dent in the market share of the big manufacturers. Low volume production continued until Triumph finally ceased production of the Vitesse and the source material dryed up.
Nevertheless, this a rare opportunity to buy a piece of English motoring history, which is exciting and fun to drive.
