The car is a 1935 build LG45 that started like as a saloon and was sold new in Glasgow in 1936. I even have the original sales invoice and 1st service bill. It stayed with one familly until the 60's and was still seen whirling around Glasgow in the late 60's.
Here is another picture of it parked next to my Vauxhall at Sudeley Castle.
In the mid 80's it was advertised for sale as a restoration project/ spares source with the body completely missing with just the front wings left.
A friend of mine bought it for spares but came to the conclusion it was too good to break what with matching numbers, etc. It was restored from stem to stern and the four seat tourer body you see in the pictures was built for it from scratch. It is a T8 body which is a Lagonda design for the period although this body was normally associated with the model before, the M45. The normal tourer bodies for LG45's are much more staid in design whereas this has the look of a cad's car. You could order a Lagonda in those days as a chassis and have whatever body you liked on it.
The engine is 4.5 litres and is a Meadows unit which is the same engine as fitted to Invictas, the geabox is Lagonda's own with synchro on 3rd and top. It does about 29mph per 1000 revs so 2000 rpm is nigh on 60mph.
It all runs well and I have done many happy miles in it but I've now bought a 1925 Vauxhall 30/98 which is more useful to me for hill climbs, sprints etc. as well as a touring car.
It comes with a huge file, a photographic record of the restoration, an original handbook which is quite a publication in itself. It has its original reg. no. AGA 162 but is non transferable.
I'll be sorry to see it go as I always wanted one from the 60's when I had the first of four Lagondas prior to this one but I can't use them both enough so someone else can have a go.
