This TC 12/40 (Car no.8512, engine no.4022) was exported to Sydney, Australia in 1924, and by 1927 it had been upgraded to 12/50 specification and fitted with a braked front axle. It was then campaigned in trials, hillclimbs and speed event in New South Wales

Around 1937 the rear section of the body work was replaced with a “pick up” bed and the car was used in an orange farm at Mangrove Mountain in NSW One photograph of the car in this guise is here on the website

After WW2, the car was rebuilt with the ducksback body and again campaigned in hillclimbs and trials We have two photographs showing the car at Silverdale Hillclimb taken c 1954

The car then disappeared until 1990 when Ian DeBbouzeville of Lithgow acquired the rolling chassis. Rob Alcock, a well known Alvis restorer based in Sydney, was commissioned to undertake a comprehensive restoration, rebuilding it to 12/50 Super Sport, retaining the four wheel braking system. The original ducksback body was rescued from Max Houston’s Restoration Works in Mangrove Mountain and reunited with the chassis

The chassis was subsequently sold to in 2002 and the task of reassembling and fitting the now fully restored coachwork to the chassis was undertaken Fortunately, the original windscreen, seats, mudguards, brackets, headlights and dashboard were still with the 1924 body

The body itself was not restored, the owner preferring instead to preserve the patina, leaving all the dents and scratches that it had collected during its 80 year life The bonnet, however, was missing and had to be replaced along with the four branch exhaust manifold and system made in stainless steel A new hood frame and hood were also made

In 2007 the car was driven to a number of VSCC meetings in Victoria including the 1,000 mile Alpine Trial it is a very quick car with precise road holding and excellent braking.

It is now at our garage in Lewes Sussex in South East England-the taxes are paid and it is uk registered and ready to be enjoyed by the next owner.
