Alvis Speed 25 1937 For Sale - £85,000

Magnificent 1937 Alvis Speed 25, a highly regarded Grand Tourer renowned for its performance and refinement . This particular model is presented in a sophisticated dark blue cellulose finish, beautifully complemented by a vibrant red canvas hood and a rich red leather interior – a truly eye-catching combination.

The Alvis Speed 25, launched in August of 1936, was engineered to excel on Britain's improving road network. This model combined a sporting character with significant refinement, achieved through a sophisticated chassis design incorporating independent front suspension using transverse leaf springs, a fully synchromesh four-speed gearbox, and large-diameter drum brakes at each corner. Powering the Speed 25 was a 3571cc inline six-cylinder engine, notable for its balanced seven-bearing crankshaft and unique spring-cluster overhead valve mechanism, fueled by three SU carburettors. This engine was rated at 108 bhp at 3,800 rpm, providing the car with a top speed nearing 100 mph and a reputation for smooth, flexible power delivery. The majority of Speed 25s were bodied by Charlesworth, offering Sports Saloon and Drophead Coupe styles, or by Cross & Ellis as Tourers. Its arrival allowed Alvis to effectively compete with prestigious marques such as Bentley (with their 4.25 litre model) and Lagonda (LG45). Production was limited to the years 1936-1940, with approximately 391 units produced at their Holyhead Road facility.

This Speed 25 benefits from a well-documented history, having had just four previous owners the last of which has lavished attention on it since 2009. It is supplied with its original buff log book and current V5 registration document, providing a tangible link to its past. Furthermore, a comprehensive history file includes MOT certificates spanning from 1992 to 2017 and detailed servicing invoices from the respected Alvis specialists, Red Triangle, covering the period from 2016 to the present day.
